Head up on one of the lifts, then return down however you like – on foot, by bike, on skis, or in the cable car. In the warmer months, you can hike across the summit plateau and enjoy the 360° views; in winter, you can ski or snowboard back down into the valley on perfectly groomed slopes. And for those who’d rather be amazed than work up a sweat, there’s the Messner Mountain Museum Corones, designed by Zaha Hadid and spectacularly integrated into the mountain.

Who better to tell you what’s worth doing than your hosts themselves? In the summer, Sandra loves nothing more than hopping on her e-bike, cycling up into the mountains, and stopping off at a mountain hut. As soon as the snow falls, she swaps her bike for skis and carves her turns while taking in the panoramic views. Hot days see Thomas, on the other hand, head for Lake Ponte di Ghiaccio/Eisbruggsee in the Fundres/Pfunders mountains, jump into the cool water, and unpack his picnic. And in winter? He loves experimenting in the kitchen and finding the perfect wine to go with the meal. Two hosts, lots of great ideas – all you have to do is try them.

If you’re looking for shopping and culture, head to Bruneck (it’s most convenient by bike, bus, or train). The medieval old town is perfect for a leisurely stroll, and the shopping street is ideal for a spot of browsing. If you’re interested in mountain culture and history, we recommend a visit to the Messner Mountain Museum Ripa. An ice cream in one hand, a shopping bag in the other – that’s what a day in town is like in Val Pusteria/Pustertal.

You simply have to see them with your own eyes at least once. The Three Peaks, turquoise-blue Lake Braies/Pragser Wildsee, the rugged peaks of the Odle/Geisler Group: the Dolomites offer a never-ending stream of picture-postcard views. Lace up your hiking boots, the rest will fall into place.
